ORANGUTAN COFFEE
The Orangutan Coffee partners in with Bersih Village, Central Aceh, joined the program in 2012. By 2023, the number of participating farmers had grown from 40 to 47, managing a total of 30.6 hectares planted with Arabica coffee. mainly Tim-Tim and Ateng varieties. The group is led by Mulyadi, who processed the coffee using the traditional giling basah (wet hulling) method on his farm.
The first farmers received organic certification under the Indonesian National Standard in 2014. With Bersih, located 1,200 – 1,500 meters above sea level near Takengon, is surrounded by intact montane rainforest that supports high biodiversity. Alongside coffee, farmers cultivate Lamtoro and various shade trees such as avocado, tangerine, jackfruit, durian, papaya, banana, and cinnamon, contributing to a sustainable agroforesty system.
